LTL Services: Understanding BOL#, Pick up#, and PRO#

Writer's picture: Whitecloud FlyWhitecloud Fly

When starting to use Less Than Truckload (LTL) services, it's important to have a basic understanding of the BOL# (Bill of Lading number), Pick up#, and PRO# (Pro Number) throughout the transportation process.

After generating a Bill of Lading (BOL), you will receive a BOL#; however, simply generating the BOL does not mean that the shipment has begun. You need to schedule a pickup with the freight carrier. Once scheduled, the carrier will provide you with a Pick up# as confirmation that your shipment is scheduled for pickup and transportation.

Once the carrier completes the pickup, they will issue a PRO# to you. The PRO# serves as a crucial tracking number on the carrier's website to monitor the status of your shipment throughout transit.

Understanding and managing these BOL#, Pick up#, and PRO# numbers properly when using LTL services can help ensure smooth delivery of your goods and provide timely updates on transportation status.
